YNAB: Budgeting & Finance App Reviews

Great!

The new app is great! Just need to be translated to brazilian portuguese and work with brazilians banks.

One of the best

More than just jolting down your expenses, it allows you to really budget, plan and improve your finances.

Nearly perfect for budgeters

Very good companion app for the new YNAB. I miss a passcode-protection or even Touch-ID.

Really...?

- Subscription based pricing - Financial data on their servers with unclear security and potential sale of personal data - No desktop app anymore - Buggy as sh** Thx a lot you just lost a loyal customer...

Passcode?

Works well. I think to ship it without protection via passcode or touch ID is a very bad decision. Hope this will follow asap.

No Desktop App

Really? The Desktop App was the powerhorse that gave ynab its uniq selling point. I dont mind paying a few bucks, but 50 per year is too much and without desktop app... sorry. Im really mad now. Why does everything good gets replaced with a god damn website nowadays? This must stop. Proper Software is more effort, but its worth the effort!

So long, Ynab...

I really like Ynab and have been using it for quite a while now. But the new concept is a no go in several aspects. First, I will never have my data completely and exclusively on a server, especially which I cannot choose myself. Second, I pay for good software and for new versions, if I think its worth buying. But I will not pay for its mere existence every month. So I will stick to the classic version, which I have bought and never regretted doing so. If it should one day stop working, I will have to look for alternatives. But maybe there will be a real new version of Ynab worth upgrading to?

Nice, but missing important (security) features!

Pricing: the new subscription model with $50 is a huge increase compared to the old price of $60 for the entire lifetime of a major software version. YNAB 4 was around now for 3.5 years which means a price of approximately $18 per year. I understand that the YNAB needs to generate income, but I think a price of $36 per year would have been more reasonable. Furthermore the new YNAB currently lacks some features from the old version like reports. At least for the moment you have to pay a lot more for less features. But the team promised to deliver the missing features. Data Security: Since we Germans take privacy and data protection, e.g. access by the government and authorities, very serious I’m concerned about the recent switch from a app with local storage to a web based solution stored on US based servers. I’d prefer to have the data stored on servers in Germany or Switzerland. Furthermore I miss 3rd party security audits to verify that everything is done to protect our data. iOS App: The app lacks some significant security options like passcode/Touch-ID support. This is a real show stopper for every day use! For the login, 1Password support would be appreciated very much! Currently you can only add new transactions, but not new budgets. When entering a new transaction it would be helpful to have the „cleared“ flag activated for cash accounts automatically. I miss the easy month switcher in the „Budget“ view like the web app has to switch fast between not consecutive months. For even faster transaction adding a today widget for the iOS lock screen would be awesome! Conclusion: the app is useful to add new transactions. But for serious work with your budgets, you still need the web app. I hope that we’ll see a lot of improvements very soon!

Subscription model & cloud storage

I used to love YNAB, but I will stop using it. I do not want to store my financial data on a server that is not under my control. Furthermore I dislike your new subscription model. Iam more than willing to pay a premium price for a product that is an upgrade to that what I already have. But your new approach seems like an obvious downgrade to me. You lost a formerly happy customer. :(

Syncing is not working

YNAB is great but its not working at the moment

Awesome app! Love YNAB

Its been a life changer! Thanks to Jesse and the team.

Same as everyone else is saying - not supporting the subscription based model

App has been working without problems, but the new subscription based model ist just a pure rip-off for every loyal customer. Bring me a useful updated and I am willing to pay for the app, but not this subscription based rip-off. Good luck with that! I hope no one else is falling for this.

Iam addicted!

I love Ynab! But it would be really nice to have more functions in the app as on the website. Like swap to the next month or edit the categories.

Great, but...

... only 3/5 because its not possible to see the next month.

Another update and still no iPad Pro support

Another update and still no support for the big iPad Pro. Let alone feature parity with the web version. (Which is not compatible with iOS browsers by the way.) I think this is pretty unfortunate because this is a subscription service and no one time purchase.

Love love!

Always a fan, product is amazing! Thanks

Cant get account information

I cant remember what email or pwd i used and it wont give me any options to retrieve.

Looks good. No PIN protection anymore

The "classic" YNAB allowed you to set up a PIN to lock access to the app. That doesnt seem to be the case with the new version. Other than that, it looks good. Being able to make budget changes on the fly is a very neat feature.

Nice re-write. Do enjoy the geo-location feature

Nice re-write. Do enjoy the geo-location feature. Keep up the great work! Locked in for the $45 yearly price - before January only.

Not near as good as the classic version

Do not like this new version at all. Very different from the classic version. Sad as I will have to find a new app to use :(.
